A leading financial institution is seeking a dynamic and strategic risk leader to drive transformation and uplift risk management frameworks across the organisation. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced risk professional to play a pivotal role in embedding a strong risk culture and ensuring effective oversight of key enterprise risks.

About the Role


Reporting directly to the Chief Risk Officer, the Executive Director – Risk & Compliance will be instrumental in shaping and executing the organisation’s risk management strategy. This newly created position will lead a team of senior risk specialists, working closely with business areas to enhance risk frameworks, policies, and governance structures. The role offers the opportunity to influence key decision-making at the executive level and drive a risk-aware culture across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of senior risk specialists, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Drive continual improvement of the organisation’s Risk Appetite Statement (RAS), metrics, and tolerances.
  • Work closely with business units to ensure consistent adoption of risk management frameworks and enhance risk oversight.
  • Oversee risk monitoring and reporting, ensuring data-driven, risk-based decision-making.
  • Foster a strong risk culture, promoting best practices and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to align risk management strategies with business objectives.
  • Drive innovation in risk management processes, leveraging emerging trends and technologies.
Experience & Expertise Required:
  • Extensive experience in executive or director-level risk management roles within financial services, professional services, or regulatory environments.
  • Deep knowledge of risk governance, frameworks, and policies, including operational, technology, cyber, financial, and resilience risks.
  • Proven experience leading risk transformation initiatives within complex organisations.
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of mentoring and developing high-performing teams.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement capabilities, with experience influencing C-suite and board-level discussions.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving expertise, with the ability to navigate complex risk landscapes.
Qualifications:
  • Tertiary qualifications in economics, finance, risk, compliance, or a related discipline.
