One of Sydney's top 5 Universities are looking for an Compliance Payroll Accountant to join their team on a 7 Month contract.

The Senior Compliance Officer / Payroll Accountant offers guidance on designated compliance areas, interpreting and communicating university policies coherently. They coordinate compliance assessments, ensuring a holistic approach, and actively promote adherence to university standards.

Key accountabilities

  • Provide guidance on designated compliance matters to ensure stakeholders, have clarity on policies and regulations.
  • Interpret and communicate university policies coherently, ensuring operations align with both internal guidelines and applicable regulatory mandates.
  • Coordinate and conduct investigations or assessments on compliance-related matters, generating thorough reports and collaborating with relevant stakeholders based on the outcomes.
  • Monitor and promote adherence to the university standards and procedures, ensuring a proactive approach to compliance and the introduction of tools to maintain consistency.
  • Lead the development and distribution of educational materials, ensuring internal stakeholders remain current and prepared to align with compliance standards and evolving sector trends.
  • Foster open communication and collaboration within the team, addressing stakeholder queries and concerns in a timely manner, while building trust within immediate work networks.
  • Oversee report compilation to meet established standards, proactively identify compliance improvements, and collaborate with the team to rectify discrepancies.
  • Coordinate purchasing processes and resolve any discrepancies in payment schedules.
  • Monitor risk within the team, promote workplace health and safety, ensure alignment with university policies, and proactively address potential challenges.
Essential Requirements

  • A degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or Commerce, or an equivalent combination of relevant training and experience in using financial systems for processing financial transactions and reporting in a large-scale organisation
  • Conducting investigations and/or assessments on compliance matters.
  • Experience in the higher education sector.
  • In the relevant area of compliance within a similar, complex organisation.
  • Interpreting and applying policies and relevant legislation.
  • Monitoring and managing compliance.
  • Understanding of compliance, risk management and audit techniques.
  • Working with legal, compliance and/or governance professionals.
