One of Sydney's top 5 Universities are looking for an Senior Communication Specialist to join their team on a 12 Month contract.

The Finance Officer provides a range of financial accounting and transactional support services to the Faculty clients in compliance with Financial, Procurement and all other University policies and procedures and supports the continuous improvement and integration of new Financial systems and processes to ensure effective and efficient service.

This position will support a customer oriented, self-directing and supportive team culture to proactively support the clients with their needs through delivering a high quality and efficient service. All team members are expected to nurture positive, fair, and balanced work culture within the team and support other team members to achieve the overall team goals.


Key accountabilities
  • Provide accounting and other transactional support to Faculties, University Schools and across University portfolios as required in a timely and customer focused manner.
  • Provide support for a range of financial transactional services managed by the consolidated finance officer pool.
  • Prepare and deliver ad hoc transactional reporting, maintain accurate documentation, registers and correspondence as requested for specific financial activities or initiatives.
  • Resolve financial transactional queries from clients.
  • Prepare timely and accurate corrections to financial records if required.
  • Work with Financial Services colleagues as required to ensure effective and customer focused delivery to resolve all queries.
  • Provide backup to other Financial Services team members as required to ensure effective and customer focused delivery of financial services across the University.
  • System: Ariba, peopleSoft, power BI 
  • General Ledger Management:
    • Oversee the maintenance and accuracy of the general ledger, ensuring all financial transactions are properly recorded and reconciled.
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual closing entries to ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Journal Entries:
    • Prepare and post journal entries in a timely manner, ensuring that all entries are accurately documented and supported by appropriate documentation.
    • Review and approve journal entries prepared by junior staff, providing guidance and training as needed.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting:
    • Develop, monitor, and analyze budgets to ensure alignment with organizational goals and financial objectives.
    • Prepare financial forecasts and variance analyses to support strategic decision-making and resource allocation.
  • Financial Reporting:
    • Prepare and present accurate financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, for management and stakeholders.
    • Assist in the preparation of annual financial statements and liaise with external auditors during the audit process.
Essential Requirements
  • Use a range of online systems including ServiceNow Case Management, PeopleSoft, Power BI for maintaining service information and delivery of service.
  • A degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or Commerce, or an equivalent combination of relevant training and experience in using financial systems for processing financial transactions and reporting in a large-scale organisation
  • Customer service experience; with a demonstrable customer-focused ethic
  • Experience in using financial systems for processing and reporting – not necessarily in the University sector but preferably in large scale organisations
